It is even more important to brush and floss when you have braces. Plaque can hide around the braces and can cause decalcifications (permanent white spots) on teeth if not effectively removed. To ensure a beautiful healthy smile, brush and floss carefully after every meal and use a fluoride rinse daily. In addition, decrease your intake of foods and drinks high in sugar and/or acid.

Foods to Avoid

Certain foods can cause loose bands, brackets, and broken appliances. These problems can cause delay in treatment and prevent you from getting your braces off in the estimated time. The following are some foods to avoid:

  1. Ice
  2. Pizza crust
  3. Crispy French fries
  4. Potato chips
  5. Popcorn
  6. Hard and chewy candy
  7. Corn-on-the-cob
  8. Raw carrots
  9. Nuts
